The DCM
The district committee
member (DCM) is an essential link between the group GSR and the area delegate to
the General Service
Conference. As leader of the district committee, made up of
all GSRs in the district, the DCM is exposed to the group conscience
of that
district. As a member of the area committee, he or she is able to pass on the
district’s thinking to the delegate and the committee.
(The pamphlet “Your
DCM,” available from the General Service Office, provides basic information
on this service job.)

The
term of office for the DCM is two years, coinciding with all the other general
service positions in the area. The DCM election
should occur after GSRs are
elected and before the area delegate is elected.
The Alternate DCM
The alternate is a backup for the
DCM, elected by the
same procedures and encouraged to share in the responsibilities of the DCM,
being available to visit and talk to groups about service work. Reprinted from the A.A. Service Manual
